KB777618
Introduction
This article documents a method to change the overall UI language of Red Star 2.0, an operating system originated from the DPR Korea. By default, this OS uses Korean as its interface language.
Symptoms
The Red Star OS 2.0 uses Korean as interface language, and it needs to be changed into English.
Solution
The OS supports displaying in English, however there needs extra configuration on the KDE configuration file in order to take effect. Steps are as follows:
- Choose Terminal (in Korean) in KDE menu to start a terminal window, or press Alt+F2 under KDE environment and enter "konsole" then hit Enter.
- Use command
# sed -l 's/ko_KP/en_US/g' /usr/share/config/kdeglobals
, in order to change the display language for all users who do not have a local KDE configuration file that overrides this change. This command replaces "ko_KP" with "en_US" in the file at the given path. The hash sign indicates that the command should be run under super user mode. - Restart KDE by logging off and then log back on. The changes will take effect.
Please note that some applications cannot be changed the UI language. This is due to the interior design not honouring global language changes.
Outcome
The user will be able to change the display language for Red Star OS 2.0 after following the instructions.
